My grandmother Lily was an entrepreneur a Samoan/German beauty and the matriarch of our large clan.
Nanny was ahead of her time and after starting up her first business she ventured offshore, her and her friend became the first ones in Samoa to buy product for her first shop overseas and opened up import/export for Samoa, opening up the way for all of Samoa.
She was very talented and excelled in all that she put her hand to. Nanny taught her children in sound business practices and made a way for all to succeed in business to this day.
My mother Marlene (a Sophia Loren look alike) grew up in Samoa. Like Nanny, mum is highly creative, she was always winning prizes. On one occasion she won 3 prizes in the one floral arrangement event. Mum had a good business sense but dad, a fun and traditional man, adored mum and wanted her to have a more leisurely life. One day I asked mum if she could’ve done anything she wanted, what would she have done? She replied “I would have had a florist shop.
At that time I was chronically ill. What mum said prompted me to make one of the best decisions I could ever have made. I decided that I could continue to stay at home day after day in pain or I could do something. I decided to study floristry and deal with the pain.
I didn’t know it then but my destiny lay ahead of me. I stepped into the world of flowers and burst into a passionate relationship with flowers, foliage and people which grows and grows and grows.
Thank you for taking the time, I’m glad you could visit.
